There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the border from next door Thailand, where gambling den betting is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a generally small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect spot, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital acquired from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is true of most borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of 150 one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 table games, including 87 punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that contains a number of conveniences aside from the gambling hall, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and eighty eight table games.
